If you opt for the hob, the bigger the pan the better. This means you can guarantee that all of your ingredients are going to fit in. Plus you won't have to cook them in separate pans - leading to more dreaded washing up.
If you're choosing to cook your one pot recipe in the oven, a deep high sided tray is usually the best option. The high sides will make sure there are no overflow or spillages whilst your dish is being cooked.
